Monomo Interaction Design

Greenwich Council

greenwich_turtle.pngWe designed this learning portal for Greenwich. We also developed the templates for this site which conformed on special request to HTML 4.0 and WAI-A standards. Greenwich was explicitly attracted to the Accessibility module we delivered as a blueprint for this site. It is most likely to be phased in for all websites run by the council. We also created a microsite as part of larger campaign we developed to promote the scheme.

Background

Greenwich council was looking for ways to encourage adults back into learning and to advertise their range of adult education courses in the area through the GreenwichLearns Network.

Together with our partner we came up with an idea for a cross-media campaign called ‘i-wonder’.

Approach

Playing on the themes of curiosty and discovery, we developed illustrations from hundreds of photographs of Greenwich landmarks, (some famous and some not so famous).

Postcards and posters were created around these motifs and a microsite was developed to link the concept together.

On the postcards a particular tag line was included relating to the illustration, which encouraged you to visit the microsite.

i_wonder_stadium.pngEach tag line posed a question…”the addicks are so called because….’,'Greenwich Village is more than 3,400 from the Dome because”…”a caterpillar turns into a turtle when…?

greewichdome.jpgFor those that didn’t know ‘a caterpillar turns into a turtle’ when you are in the middle of breakdance routine. By clicking on to the turtle motif would lead you to relavant information on dances courses from the Greenwich Learns portal.

Interface

GreenwichLearns is the Adult Learning portal for the Borough. We designed the templates and interface of the site and as menitoned before made sure the design conformed to HTML 4.0 and WAI-A standards- we also developed a special accessiblity module as a blueprint for the site.

i_wonder_results.pngOne of our main aims when designing the templates was to ensure that it combined a certain degree of flexibility (so it could easily accomodate any growth or expansion in use of the site), whilst still ensuring that the site was coherent in terms of use and identity.

The site is now updated and developed by the Borough itself. New features have been added (by other developers) such as the mapping feature (below) which illustrate how well the template works.greenwichlearns_map.png
