Standards are usually formed by an accumulation of specifications establishing a common ground on which basis the comprehensive functionality of different software and hardware can be enabled.
In more concrete terms standards form the base from which we can design and develop software and hardware, which will be able to communicate with other products.
In the digital world products always have to rely on each other to function well. When a mouse click on a web page triggers the opening of an email program, various handshakes between programs take place. Without standards the programs involved would not know where to grab the others program hand.
Content and applications, we format and design according to international standards, are by far more likely to be correctly interpreted by soft- and hardware of the future, hence ensuring the highest possible degree of sustainability.
But the same is true looking back: Code which has been built to today’s standards might be interpreted differently by much older software – but if it comes to the web – the user is still very able to access the most important information, hence there is no discrimination towards old soft- and usually the old hardware coming with it.
Special setups, that means special software and hardware, let’s say for disabled people, have the possibility to deliver the best possible access and experience for their special need users, when we adhere to international standards.
There is a lot of constant movement in the digital world and we see a lot of interchange between the various media whether that is TV, mobiles, handheld devices and of course the PC. Adhering to standards means that all these devices can interpret content in their appropriate manner – hence deliver your content and your message in the most meaningful way.
Now adhering to standards is never very easy, especially if people with their very creative minds want to make the most of it. By constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done while still adhering to standards we are actively contributing to the further refinement of international standards and demonstrate the fact that adhering to standards and therefore enabling our clients to reach the widest of all audiences, does not mean to be less sexy or thrilling than some other proprietary approach – rather the opposite.
